Privacy
MapVistas keeps as little as it can.
What the map does without an account
- Areas you draw are stored in your own browser until you sign in and publish them. They never leave your device before that.
- The map tiles come from OpenFreeMap and the photos from Wikimedia Commons; your browser requests them directly, so those services see your IP address like any website you visit. We set no tracking cookies and run no advertising.
- Your location is used only when you press the locate button and is never sent to us.
With an account
- Sign-in is handled by Firebase Authentication (Google). We store your user id, email address and display name so your areas and suggestions can be attributed to you and moderated.
- Published areas and approved suggestions are public, under your display name, with the CC BY-SA 4.0 licence you accepted.
- You can delete your areas yourself; to delete your account write to hello@mapvistas.com.
Hosting
The site runs on Google Cloud in the United States. Request logs (IP address, URL, time) are kept for 30 days for abuse prevention and then deleted.
